5 Myths about Wedding Bands

November 1, 2017

Everybody has a different Idea of what a Wedding band is and should be. Everyone's idea of what that is can be extremely varied.

Having said that most people would agree on what factors make a great weddings band.

We have been doing it for a number of years and would like to dispel some of the Myths surrounding Wedding Bands.

Here are 5 of the most Common.

We’ve all seen and heard ‘That’ Band. The one with the old guys wearing colourful suits, playing nothing but Journey with smoke machines, 80’s disco lights accompanied by horrendous backing tracks. With acts like this no wonder wedding bands can get a bad name.

This sort of thing is not normal these days, and a far cry from what top professional wedding bands like Carbon Copy offer.

The days of the club singers with only one style and no soul are over. Modern Wedding bands must have the full repertoire.

What you should expect is a wide variety of styles, genres and influences. Performed by dynamic musicians with an understanding of different ways of playing ranging from relaxed slow songs to full scale party anthems.

Of Course there is a time and a place for some of the old classics and to be honest they are expected as everyone likes to dance to the songs they know, however it has to be balanced with something a bit more cutting edge.

We at Carbon Copy pride ourselves in finding the balance and you can check out our full set list here.

Everybody’s has a different idea of what is expensive but when you consider that the average cost of a wedding is £20,000, the band is not such a big percentage of the total.

When you book a top wedding band you’re not just paying for great music and a full dance floor (that’s a given). You are also getting someone to host the ceremony and guide your guests through the evenings entertainment with audience interaction.

Its also a Myth that the more expensive the band the better the quality.

There are a huge range of wedding bands out there with massive differences in price. Here are our tips on how to save money when choosing a band

  • Book Direct - Go to the band direct and save up 25% on agency fees

  • Book Local - Bands have fuel and accommodation costs

  • Size Matters - Each band member needs to be paid. 4 Pieces will be less expensive than 5 or 6 pieces.

We are well aware of how expensive weddings are and really pride ourselves on being as competitive as possible so get in touch for a quote now!

This is just not true at all. There’s never been a better time to book music for your wedding with so much choice out there.

You can find a band out there to cater for every taste and some bands who cater for every taste and that is what we try do do at Carbon Copy.

You can get specific styles of bands and tribute acts but we would much rather try and do as many styles as possible. At the end of the day, any room full of wedding guests are not all going to like exactly the same styles of music so we try and play something to suit all ages and tastes.

If you want to go specific to a particular genre there are plenty acts out there who do dit very well, however it's worth bearing in mind that all of your guests may not be as keen on the same style.

DJ’s are great and there plenty good DJ’s out there but the idea that a DJ does the same thing as a wedding band is a myth that needs to be debunked.

Sure DJ’s can play any song and of course they can get people on the dance floor but you definitely don’t get the same experience as you do with live music.

Maybe we are biased but when was the last time a DJ learned and performed your first dance? Gave a high energy live performance? Interacted all night with an audience? Played an acoustic set? Sang a song?

There is a time and place for a DJ and to be honest why not have both?

With Carbon Copy you can have just that.

We play as a band between 8 and midnight and can offer an additional DJ set between midnight and 1am. So why not have the best of both worlds?

A professional wedding band will have a large repertoire which should include music that you want to hear. We are always working on ours to make sure that it is up to date and as good as it can possibly be.

We play 2 to 4 times a week all year round so feel that we know what music people want to hear through our experience of performing.

Of course if you want a few songs from the set list played on the night most bands will be able to accommodate this and we are no different.

We learn all first dances wherever possible and try and accommodate any requests for songs from our set list to be played on the night where we can.

If you feel you would like a set tailored to your needs such as a ‘rockier’ set or maybe some ‘Irish’ songs from our set list included, as always we will do our best play as many of your requests as possible.

Due to the sheer number of weddings we can only commit to learning 1 song per wedding (usually the first dance) and we require at least 4 weeks to learn it.

As always though get in touch if you have any requests or specific needs regarding any aspect of your night. We are happy to discuss anything with you any step of the way.
